During question time, in a presentation, a student asked another student a difficult question. The presenting student could only respond with “I don’t know.” In this situation, the student came across as unprofessional for not knowing the answer. To help answer those difficult questions while maintaining professionalism, you can use these phrases below:

Can I get back to you on that? (Unsure of the answer)
I’m afraid that would take too long to answer. (There isn’t enough time to give a complete answer)
Can I check with my colleague and get back to you on that? (You want to double check with a colleague first)
I’m afraid I don’t have that information right now. (You can’t release that information or it may not be related to the topic)

These phrases will help you respond to difficult questions.
